Chateau Gaillard is a ruined medieval castle, located some 95 kilometres north-west of Paris. Construction began in 1196 under the auspices of Richard the Lionheart, who was simultaneously King of England and feudal Duke of Normandy. Down below the castle, the two villages of Le Grand Andely and Le Petit Andely grew and merged into one. France's most famous 17th-century artist, Nicolas Poussin, was born in these parts

Giverny is a commune in the Eure department in northern France. It is best known as the location of Claude Monet's garden and home. It is now a cafe and restaurant.
